-- skip to content menu my account cart checkout pedal of honour – saturday may 12th, 2018 menu home pedal of honour 2018 2018 route fundraising gallery sponsors news diary welcome to pedal of honour! and thanks for visiting the home of our social riding group and charity bike ride. our loyal group of riders have been pedalling the highways, byways and hidden lanes of the chiltern hills for years, but, eight years ago we decided to put our passion for the area to good use by creating our very own charity bike ride – pedal of honour. in the years since, we’ve raised much-needed funds for three local charities: the hospice of st francis, helen & douglas house and rennie grove. it’s been a fantastic journey and one we will continue to travel as we approach our tenth anniversary. pedal of honour is a very simple idea and combines our twin loves of riding through the chilterns with visiting pubs. in fact, our grand vision was born in a pub – the alford arms in frithsden near berkhamsted. “what could be easier?” we thought than riding our bikes from the alford past the russell arms, butlers cross and the old queens head, penn all the way to the royal oak in bovingdon green near marlow? well, it was such a good idea we got right on with it and the first pedal of honour was born. over the years, the pubs have changed and the route has evolved, but we still begin at the alford and end at the oak. this year, pedal of honour will be 100km in length (62 miles) and travels across some of the most iconic scenery the chilterns has to offer. we always wanted to keep pedal of honour relaxed and sociable, which is why we never have more than a 100 riders taking part. that way we can over-deliver on the hospitality and make sure every rider achieves their goal. we welcome riders of all experience and ability and really look after everyone involved. all we ask is that they raise as much cash as they can for our chosen charities. if you’re new to pedal of honour and would like to take part then head straight over to our registration page and sign up. we’ll send you details of how to set up your online fundraising page and keep you informed of developments for this year’s ride. we look forward to seeing you. the route this year sees some changes to the route we’ve been using for the past few years. for starters it’s longer – 100 km (62 miles ish). why? well, saying “100km” sounds really cool when fundraising and even better when you’re bragging about completing it afterwards. but we don’t want to just add on some meaningless miles to get the distance up! no, we’ve actually thought about improving the route too, so it will be both longer and better. right now, we’re still adding some tweaks, but we’ll have the finished route ready to share with you as soon as possible. fundraising all we ask in return for the best bike ride hospitality you are ever likely to experience is to raise money for our worthy charities. we don’t like to set minimum targets, but if you asked at least 25 friends and family for £10 each that would be a very good start. c’mon, everyone can manage that! to make it even easier, we’ve set up events pages on both just giving and virgin money giving. you’ve probably already got an account with either, but if you haven’t, it’s really easy to set one up. just follow the links below. keeping your fundraising online is a much easier way of keeping track of your activity, plus the charities get the cash straight away. it also means we can monitor our fundraising total. sign up and get started now. how we look after you from the coffee and bacon sandwiches at the alford arms to the big bbq at the royal oak, we really look after everyone taking part in pedal of honour. in between, our rest stops at the russell arms and old queens head provide much needed refreshment. the route is well signposted and we have digital maps available on garmin, ridewithgps and mapmyride etc. out on the road we have support vehicles filled with tools and spares, plus qualified first aiders. for those riders wanting to return towards berkhamsted at the end, we offer transport for you and your bike for a modest fee. most of all, we guarantee friendship, encouragement and a fantastic day out. oh, and the warm glow from having contributed magnificently to some very worthy causes. how can you say no to that? © 2018 pedal of honour
